Writing Whole Numbers
Whole numbers from 0 through 20 are written as single words.
Examples:
- 5 is written as five
- 13 is written as thirteen
- 11 is written as eleven
- 9 is written as nine
Whole numbers from 21 through 99, which do not end in zero are written as hyphenated words.
Examples:
- 36 is written as thirty-six
- 78 is written as seventy-eight
- 52 is written as fifty-two
Whole numbers should not include the word 'and' in written form:
Examples:
- 453 is written as four hundred fifty-three (not four hundred and fifty-three)
- 10,013 is written as ten thousand thirteen (not ten thousand and thirteen)
