Circles: Products of Chords
For chords within a circle, the product of segments comprising each chord will be equal for the chords.

In the figure above, the product for segment of each chord equal 24:
Find the length of the chord, x, in the illustration below:

Solution:
Since product of chord segments should be equal for both chords:
2x = 20
x = 10
- First Chord: (2)(12) = 24
- Second Chord: (3)(8) = 24
Example:
Find the length of the chord, x, in the illustration below:

Solution:
First Chord: (5)(4) = 20
Second Chord: 2x
Second Chord: 2x
2x = 20
x = 10
