Poisson Distribution
The Poisson distribution is a discrete probability distribution that expresses the probability of a number of events occurring in a fixed period of time if these events occur with a known average rate, and are independent of the time since the last event. The Poisson distribution can be applied to systems with a large number of discrete states and a small number of favorable outcomes.
The discrete probability function is expressed mathematically as:
where λ represents expected number of occurrences during a specific interval.
