Trig Even-Odd Identities
For angle θ at which the functions are defined:
(1) sin(−θ) = −sin(θ)
(2) cos(−θ) = cos(θ)
(3) tan(−θ) = −tan(θ)
(4) cot(−θ) = −cot(θ)
(5) sec(−θ) = sec(θ)
(6) csc(−θ) = −csc(θ)
(2) cos(−θ) = cos(θ)
(3) tan(−θ) = −tan(θ)
(4) cot(−θ) = −cot(θ)
(5) sec(−θ) = sec(θ)
(6) csc(−θ) = −csc(θ)
Example:
For sin θ = ½, determine sin(−θ) and csc(−θ)
Solution:
sin(−θ) = −sin(θ) = −½
csc(θ) = 1/sin(θ) = 1/(½) = 2
csc(−θ) = −csc(θ) = −2
